Graham Nash is one of the most influential singer- songwriters of the century. He has been a member of two major “British invasion” rock groups” the Hollies and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young (which has also performed as Crosby & Nash). Both groups have scored an astonishing catalog of hits, including “Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress,” “He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother,” and “Our House.” He has also released many albums as a solo artist.

The Hollies was founded in the early 1960s by Nash and his school friend Allan Clarke.The whole story can be found at http://blogcritics.org/video/article/dvd-review-look-through-any-window/ He sang the lead vocals on “To You My Love” (1964) and “On a Carousel” (1966), and also helped write “Whole World Over,” a song which shows the influence of the Everly Brothers. He had a brief affair with Canadian folk singer Joni Mitchell; it was this affair that inspired him to write “Our House.” (CSN&Y also covered hers song “Woodstock.” In 2005 he collaborated on two songs with a-ha, the Norwegian group that did “Take on Me” back in 1985.

Nash’s songs, both as a band member and as a solo artist, have been recorded by other entertainers” “Our House” by Helen Reddy, Sheena Easton, and others; “Just a Song Before I Go” by Chateau Beach. “Teach Your Children” was performed by Nash with Suzy Boguss and two other country singers in 1994; and Mondale had used the song as part of his 1984 campaign, which focused in part on arms control.

In addition to his musical work, Nash has also been active in many other fields. In 1979, he helped found Musicians United for Safe Energy, a group which opposes the use of nuclear energy. He has also worked in photography. Most recently, he has been appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire.
